AOR ARD-300
AOR ARD-300
I came across this unit while looking at scanners sold by Andrews Communications.
Is anybody currently using one of these? There not cheap to buy & you need a compatible scanning receiver to use also.
"All-new external DIGITAL multi-mode voice decoder!!
Decodes APCO25 voice signals! Decodes dPMR, NXDN and popular amateur radio digital voice mode from Alinco, Icom and Yaesu!
Compatible with AOR "legacy" receivers, e.g. AR-8600Mk2, AR-5000(A & +3), AR-ONE and newer AR-2300, AR-5001D & AR-6000.
Supports any brand's receiver or scanning receiver which has a 10.7MHz or 45.05MHz IF output."
Thanks, John.

Re: AOR ARD-300
Sounds almost too good to be true - though I do note that it is missing DMR/MotoTRBO etc. I'm keen to give one a burl!freqwaves wrote: "All-new external DIGITAL multi-mode voice decoder!!

Re: AOR ARD-300
Had to look up the difference between dPMR (NXDN) and DMR (TRBO)
DMR uses 2 slot TDMA - requires 1 repeater for 2 x 6.25khz Sub channels
dPMR uses 2 slot FDMA - requires 1 repeater for each 6.25khz sub channel
Consequently dPMR is not spectrum efficient in comparsion to DMR.
As far as I can figure dPMR and NXDN are the same

Re: AOR ARD-300
I can't remember, which one was it that uses four slots? Is it TETRA or something else?
Can't even remember where I read it now, so much water has passed under the bridge since I was playing with such things.

Re: AOR ARD-300
Grant that's correct. In fact, given that DMR can support two channels simultaneously, it's more cost efficient as well as cheaper too. We are looking to set up a DMR repeater on 70cm in Sydney.
Re: AOR ARD-300
This receiver now comes with a firmware upgrade for Mototrbo. ARD-300 sells for $1199, then you need to buy a AR8600 MK2 at $1199 which adds up to $2398.
You might as well buy a AOR AR-DV1 for $1999 with all features in one unit.

Scanner with discriminator tap + free download of DSDPlus 1.101 is much cheaper
