Was in there the other day, they are using Tait gear, couple of officers with Tait Portables (TP9155).

Just by pure coincidence I was looking at a document on the ACMA website the other day relating to this...

http://www.acma.gov.au/webwr/_assets/main/lib311839/airservices_australia_ifc11-2010.pdf

Page 2 mentions that they will have to relocate from these 500MHz frequencies and the possibility that they may move to the GRN?

I doubt they will change over to grn, the ACMA wants to clean up the 400mhz range not the 500mhz range yet

It would be interesting however to see federal agencies move onto the grn within nsw/act

Actually there is an embargo in place on their spectrum currently and it is anticipated that there will be changes to this band. I'm aware that there are people who strongly believe they should be on the GRN but they are those in the NSW government. The last time I looked Air Services was a federal government agency so that should be a decision for them to make, and not be strong armed by NSW beauracrats. These people are the ones that hold the view that everyone must be on the same radio network, like they haven't heard of terms like "bridging" & "patching". Really, what benefits would the airport fire service get by going on GRN? The GRN has far worse coverage at the airport than their current generation Tait TB9100 based system, and they then have to contribute to overheads that they gain no benefit from...

Cheers,

Richard

Just a side question re the airport, how come there's no coverage in the general Holmes drive / airport tunnel? ( suppose u could ask about the m2/beecroft tunnel as well )

Good question Matt... I suspect they were deemed too short to justify the expense as you have coverage at the portals.

Cheers,

Richard
