RFS Stratnet in Shoalhaven
Hi all
For the last four or so Sundays I have been hearing Shoalhaven RFS on Stratnet Channel 12 (464.5250)
It seems to be just normal conversations that would normaly take place the normal local PMR channels.
The problem is I am only hearing Firecomms side and not the stations or trucks.
Has anyone else noticed the same thing? Whats going on?
Mark

Re: RFS Stratnet in Shoalhaven
it could be a patch or a re-broadcast from another channel...
if i recall at gosford rfs they could re-broadcast pmr channels onto grn or stratnet or vhf...

It could be I suppose, I have only noticed it on Sundays though which is a bit strange. Could be whoever is running Firecom on Sundays does it for some reason.

Re: RFS Stratnet in Shoalhaven
I would say that it's operator error, their PMR is monitored by "After Hours" which is always the same voice you hear on Shoalhaven City Council's radio network, it seems S/Hvn RFS hand off the mundane radio monitoring to the council operator and only "take control of the network" when they receive a 000 call?
I am surprised that State Ops haven't jumped on them for doing it though because as you know, the Strategic Network is rebroadcast across an enormous area and monitored 24/7 by Homebush.

Operator error would be the most likely thing I would guess.
I am also supprised no one has told them if Homebush are listening too.
Thanks for the info

Most of the time yes, but a little while back (Sept '09) the RFS called for EOIs from volunteers to man the State Operations Centre during major incidents so you might occasionally strike a non-paid worker? It was a sweet deal too, you got extra training in the area you chose to work, free travel, accommodation, catering and any out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed!Chrisco wrote:the ppl at homebush are paid workers correct?

On what Stratnet channel would I hear them near Homebush; I suppose any one of the S01-30?
Unless it's a direct RF link from somewhere near Shoalhaven to Homebush... which I assume is probably the case.

Re: RFS Stratnet in Shoalhaven
Not sure how the Strategic Network is divided up although I don't think it is truly state-wide; I'm guessing it might be split up into regions as I never hear anything from the North Coast for example? I do know that it's sometimes quasi-patched into G87 STATE OPS on the old GRN when there's major aircraft operations (although not fully patched as you can only hear the dispatcher simultaneously on both, the inbound traffic on one isn't rebroadcast on the other, but I assume that's because the RFS won't spring for CENTRACOMs)?
I'll try and remember to post a message here if I happen to hear it and you can listen in and see if it's linked to a channel around Sydney (although I'm usually being dragged away from the shack on Sundays... )
